Geoff Osborne has performed several key functions at NRStor since joining the Company shortly after it was founded in 2012. He is primarily focused on identifying business development opportunities, managing project development and construction, strategic planning, evaluating new technologies and business models, coordinating technical proposals, and conducting market research and analysis. Geoff has also worked with public and private sector stakeholders to help advance regulatory policy and enable the increased adoption of energy storage in Ontario. Geoff played a key role in the development and execution of NRStor’s first installation (a 2MW/500kWh flywheel energy storage facility) and currently manages commercial operations for the project. Geoff holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Prior to joining NRStor, Geoff held positions with a major Canadian hospital and private legal practice.
Dan Chapman, NRStor Inc. & Chapman Ventures
Dan Chapman brings 11 years of clean technology experience and advocacy to NRStor. Previously at TransAlta, Dan was regarded as the corporate expert in emerging renewable energy technologies, and has served as a panelist on energy storage and new technologies at IPPSA, Alberta Power Symposium, and Carbon Management Canada conferences. He advised senior management regarding disruptive technologies and drove initiatives leading to TransAlta's entrance into solar via a 21 MW portfolio acquisition. He originated, and managed development of the 10 MW Alberta wind-sited Tesla battery project, winning $11 million of CCEMC funding toward the initiative. Dan is becoming increasingly involved in Calgary's innovation community through Innovate Calgary's Greentech Mentor program and will continue to work with government and community stakeholders to assess and promote new energy solutions. While employed at ENMAX, Dan gained experience with hydroelectric and wind plant operations, project management and business development.
Jan van Egteren, Rocky Mountain Power (2006) Inc.
Mr. van Egteren has over 30 years of increasingly senior management positions in the energy industry. He has been President of Rocky Mountain Power for the last 6 years; Chairman of Grasslands Renewable Energy, a renewable energy generation, transmission and storage development company; Vice-President of Marketing for Landis Energy Corporation, an energy storage development company; Vice President of Marketing for the Montana Alberta Tie Ltd. a power transmission project; General Manager of Lukens Energy Group Canada Ltd. a U.S. based energy consulting company, and Vice President, Marketing and Transportation with ProGas Limited, a natural gas marketing company. Mr. van Egteren graduated with an economics degree from the University of Lethbridge in 1974, M.Sc from the University of Alberta in 1976 and M.A. and ABD in the PH.D economics program from the University of Toronto in 1978.
Charles Gilmour, NextEra Energy Canada
Mr. Gilmour started his career with NextEra Energy working as a reliability engineer in wind operations. His job involved supporting the companies’ Vestas V80 wind turbine fleet with sites located in Quebec, Nova Scotia, and the U.S. In early 2016 he transitioned to business development, with a focus on growing energy storage within Canada. He works out NextEra’s Toronto office and is a licenced Professional Engineer within the province of Ontario. Mr. Gilmour graduated with an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Ryerson University in 2010, and received an M.E.Sc from the University of Western Ontario in Chemical and Environmental Engineering in 2012.
Russ Weed, UniEnergy Technologies
Russ Weed is VP Business Development & Marketing for UniEnergy Technologies (UET). Russ is General Counsel for UET as well. Backed by private equity funding and headquartered near Seattle, Washington, UET produces and delivers large- and medium-scale energy storage solutions for grid, microgrid, and commercial and industrial customers. With a 60,000 square foot manufacturing facility, UET has 20MW / 80MWh of systems deployed, ordered, or awarded globally so far, in Washington, California, New York, Hawaii, Tennessee, Germany, and Italy.
Russ has more than 25 years of experience as a VP business development and general counsel, including at the General Electric Company. At UET, Russ is responsible for business strategy activities; channel partnerships; outbound marketing including public relations and branding; government relations; negotiations and contracting; intellectual property and other legal matters; mergers and acquisitions; and fundraising. He has extensive international experience including in Asia and Europe. Russ is personally committed to help make large-scale clean energy a reality.
